Junior News 2008

Well, another season is fast approaching and I thought I would write you a small blog to keep you informed about what’s happening in Birstall Golf Club’s Junior Section.

Once again Patrick Marston is your Junior Captain and we are hoping to improve in the Junior League this season.This year we have three home games and two away.

For the first time in several years Birstall is holding a Junior Open on Friday 22nd August, with the course in such fantastic condition we are all hoping for a good turn out on the day. I hope all Birstall Juniors with handicaps will enter the open, there will be lots of prizes in each handicap section. I would hope that all Junior member will enter as many Junior Opens around the county as possible, it’s invaluable experience at a minimal cost. A list of all Junior Opens will be placed on the Junior Notice Board shortly. The first Junior Open of the season is at Kibworth Golf Club on Wednesday 19th March.

Our Club Captain this year is Mr. Eric Hill, I hope all Juniors will have the a chance to meet him during his term in office and he has told me he will attempt to appear as many times as possible to Junior League Matches.

Patrick Marston and Jack Merry I am pleased to say, have been selected to represent the County against the County Girls at Forest Hill Golf Club over Easter. This is quite an achievement for the lads as they have two whole seasons left in their respective age groups and is a testament to all the hard work they have put in during the Winter.

Whilst we are on the subject of practice, I hope this year to have some coaching arranged with our professional over the summer months, please keep your eyes peeled for further announcements.

I am pleased to inform all our girl golfers that Sue Bailey will continue to help them develop their game this season.

Finally any help with our Junior Section is always welcome, you don’t have to  be a great golfer, just enthusiastic!
